Thomas Machowicz
 

Thomas Machowicz is a documentary photographer and filmmaker based in Phoenix, Arizona. His work focuses on social issues, conflict, immigration, and stories of compassion, often highlighting the resilience and humanity of people in challenging circumstances. He is the co-founder and photo editor for the nonprofit documentary project Sanctuary Doc, which tells visual stories of animals and the people who rescue them.

Thomas’ work has been published by The Associated Press, Reuters, BBC News, Libération, Vox, The Wall Street Journal, The Arizona Republic, The Raw Society, and We Animals. He is a Part 107 FAA Certified Drone Pilot and a Member Pro of The Raw Society.

His films, including the award-winning Transfarming Switzerland and A Promise of Paradise, have been recognized at multiple international film festivals for their storytelling and social impact. His photography documenting humanitarian aid along the Arizona–Mexico border earned him an IPA Honorable Mention and finalist recognition at Rencontres de la Photographie Marrakech.

Thomas is also a faculty associate at the ASU Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where he teaches and mentors students in visual storytelling and documentary practice. He considers himself a conduit for stories meant to raise the consciousness of humanity, using photography, film, lectures, and workshops as tools to explore and share the human experience. He continues to contribute to We Animals, alongside assignments for major outlets and nonprofit projects worldwide.

He is available for international assignments, as well as for teaching and speaking engagements.
